Help a Student Learn
12/08/10
My name is Ruth Rusie. 30 years ago, I retired as a teacher. But I have never stopped teaching. I volunteer in Central Indiana for United Way's Success By 6 -- a program that puts children on a path to succeed in school from an early age.
Every day I work to improve communication between parents and children, put books in the hands of children under six, and build relationships between schools and parents to help students read more actively. It's incredibly rewarding but, at the same time, my heart aches for the little ones who still need help. Not every child in the country has access to these programs, which is why I need your support.
Will you give a tax deductible end of the year donation to help make a difference in the education of our children?

You may be surprised to learn only one in three fourth graders are reading proficiently. As a retired teacher, I can tell you those children who don't read well often fall behind and end up dropping out of school. It's a quiet crisis happening right now in communities across America. Programs like Success By 6 help children develop a love of reading by giving them access to books and caring adults who love to read and spend time with them. But we can't continue this work without your help.
Education is my passion, and I will continue teaching for the rest of my life. With your contribution, people like me -- and programs like Success by 6 -- can continue helping students.
Thanks for your support,
Ruth Rusie
