Have You Been Helped by Medicaid or CHIP?

01/13/13

One of United Way’s highest priorities is connecting children and families to health coverage.  Along with national partners like Aetna and WellPoint and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, state and local United Ways are at the forefront in connect children and families to coverage via Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.  Medicaid and CHIP have a proven track record of containing health care costs for society and providing health and financial security for the families they serve.

Importantly, most of those served by Medicaid and CHIP are children.  Most of the adults served are the elderly or infirmed.  And most able-bodied adults work.  In short, Medicaid and CHIP keep people health, working, and productive members of society.

One of the best ways for us to communicate the value of collective efforts like Medicaid and CHIP is to capture the stories of real families in real communities who have been helped by them.  United Ways connect folks to these important work supports every day, but we don’t always know just how these programs have helped you.

So have you or someone you know been helped by Medicaid or CHIP?  Following an injury or illness, were you able to get the health care you need AND remain financial stable?   How did United Way play a role in getting the support you needed?

We’d love to hear from you!
