Check out this video of Camden, New Jersey, a community that understands a healthy environment is essential for people to live healthy lives. With support from United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in Camden County and partners, the community is already seeing positive changes that benefit everyone—from newly renovated playgrounds to healthy food choices in corner stores, safe outdoor activities for children, and more.

Lasting solutions like ones we see in Camden, New Jersey occur when residents, businesses, and community organizations like the YMCA and United Way work together. This kind of multi-sector partnership is necessary to building a culture that encourages healthy choices. Since 2011, United Way has been a national partner of the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program, a joint effort between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. Packed with tools and resources for local leaders, the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps recognize that “much of what influences our health happens outside of the doctor’s office—in our schools, workplaces and neighborhoods.”  Last week, the updated Rankings for 2014 were released. Five years after their inaugural release, the Rankings continue to offer counties a snapshot of how healthy their residents are across 29 factors. Click here to learn how you can use Rankings in your community.
