The Difference “Differences” Make
During this election and high-stakes political season, there are constant references to understanding the “differences” between candidates’ positions on critical issues at the community, city, state, national and international levels. Having a different point of view or being visibly different in and of itself does not lead to conflict and behavior unbecoming to a human being. It is our thinking and the meaning we attach to what we hear and experience that creates the response.

OPPORTUNITY NATION WEEK OF ACTION (OCT. 8TH-15TH) - Fewer Americans are likely to earn a high school diploma than their parents, a distinction not shared by any other industrialized country. We know that when students drop out of school, communities suffer. About one quarter of all students – one million students a year, 3,000 a day – fail to graduate on time. It’s no wonder that our trust in the power of the American Dream is wavering.

Have You Met Alice?

Some years ago, as the Executive Director of the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown, New Jersey, I spent my days getting to know many who had hit rock-bottom. I gained great sympathy for these individuals who were homeless and destitute. The more I got to know them, the more I learned.
