A Landmark Celebration: United Way’s 125h Anniversary

Last week two global landmarks celebrated United Way's 125th anniversary and our worldwide volunteer Day of Action. Digital screens throughout Times Square put the spotlight on our movement, while the iconic Empire State Building was lit in United Way’s signature color (blue). The events took place Thursday, June 21 –  the summer solstice/longest day of the year. Our Day of Action is an invitation for people in communities around the world to volunteer to improve community conditions. This year more than 250 communities in Canada, Colombia, France, Romania, Russia, South Africa and the United State participated in Day of Action. The 125thanniversary of the United Way movement is an opportunity to honor our past and celebrate the future as we build on our history of improving community conditions and creating opportunities for all.
