Joan Brock

Member Women United Global Leadership Council

Joan Perry Brock, a native of Norfolk, graduated from Longwood College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education with a major in Mathematics. She received her Masters of Arts in Humanities from Old Dominion University in 1991. She was Assistant Secretary/Treasurer of the Dollar Tree Stores from 1986 through 1997. She served in a similar capacity during the development of K&K Toys. From 1964-1967, Mrs. Brock was employed as a secondary school Mathematics teacher.

Mrs. Brock joined the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way of South Hampton Roads in 2004 and chaired the 10 for 10 Committee from 2006-2010. She leads the Steering Committee that is planning the celebratory event of our “100 Women of Philanthropy".
Mrs. Brock currently serves on the Board of Directors for Sentara Healthcare. She chairs the Foundation Committee and successfully led the Nightingale Helicopter Replacement Campaign.

She was recognized for volunteerism by the YWCA with the Woman of Distinction award in 2005. In 2012 she was presented the Curry Humanitarian Award for Distinguished Service to Others from Longwood College and in 2013, SunTrust honored her with the Diversity and Inclusion Leadership award.
Mrs. Brock and her husband Macon have jointly received several awards for their community service.

In recognition of their civic involvement, they will receive The Daren Award for Regional Leadership in November 2015 from the Civic Leadership Institute.
Mrs. Brock received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Randolph Macon College in May 2009 and a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa from Virginia Wesleyan College in May 2010.

The Brocks have been married fifty years and have three children and six grandchildren.
